Over the weekend of 23-24 September, the Ukrainian city of Dnipro played host to an exciting series of drones events that served as a showcase for how far this fantastic sport has come. These formed a part of the FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale) Drone Racing World Cup, a thrilling new area of growth for this prestigious air sports championship. The Copter Race, as it’s been dubbed, saw over forty pilots from a range of countries take part, pitting their devices against each other in a stunning combination of engineering and sportsmanship.
A New Dawn for Air Sports
Thanks to Max Polyakov, Ukraine has played a big part in catapulting drone racing further into the mainstream, bringing lots of competitors together in events making the most of the latest CupNavigator technology that has made it much easier for judges to score the competition. This technology is also being implemented across other air sports disciplines, where it has helped audiences keep track of the action in real time. It’s part of an ongoing push to modernise air sports and engage a wider range of viewers. Given how exciting so many air sports are, there’s no reason they can’t develop an international following similar to motorsports competitions like Formula One and MotoGP, if the marketing is properly implemented.
